Real Raw Women Series: Ainslie Young
Welcome gorgeous! Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi there, I’m Ainslie Young. In my past life I was an accessories designer and ran my own business. At my current age of 30 I’ve switched career paths and now I’m a Travel and Lifestyle blogger and a Life Coach in- training. I’ve recently moved from Sydney to Hong Kong and I’m embracing the expat lifestyle!
What does ‘practise glow’ mean to you? How do you like to ‘practise glow’?
To me ‘Practise Glow’ means focusing on what lights me up and taking care of my mind and body. I practise glow by doing the things I love such as: meditating and doing some journal writing first thing every morning. I find this killer combination of self-love and self-care sets me up brilliantly for the rest of the day. I also like to surround myself with positive and like-minded people who help to lift me up. I find when I have really heart warming and deeply inspiring conversations I light up….and I glow!
Note from Sarah: It’s great Ainslie has found a gorgeous routine. However, I’m a huge advocator of doing what feels right for you in every moment. So if you don’t have a routine there’s nothing wrong with you!! I haven’t got one…! Trust your instincts and do a spot of journalling every morning if you feel the pull.
How do you take care of yourself?
My new way of taking care of myself is REALLY listening to my body. I use to always be pushing myself to the limit, physically and mentally which didn’t end very well! So now I’m constantly asking myself ‘what does my body need right now?’ Do I need to stretch, get a drink of water, stop running, go to bed earlier, take a break and meditate, eat a decent piece of red meat?’ My body knows best and I have to trust it rather than fight it!
What does body love mean to you?
Loving and accepting my body for what it is and acknowledging how truly amazing it is. When you think about it, our bodies do amazing things every single day! Often we just take it all for granted….I know I do!
What’s getting in your way from loving your body more? Can you share any ways you find help you to move forward?
Often my ‘mean girl’ voice pops up and will tell me all types of negative things. “You’re getting fat. Your skin is hideous. Wow, you are looking really old today.” I try and swiftly squash my ‘mean girl’ by reminding myself that I would NEVER say those horrible things to my best friend, so why should I be so harsh on myself? This little technique puts things back into perspective for me.
Note from Sarah: Great strategy! For MANY more check out one of my fav blog posts here.
If you loved yourself more what would you do differently when it comes to nourishing yourself?
I know I definitely need to drink more water and get more sleep! These are things I struggle with in regards to my new life in Hong Kong. I also need to make getting outside and embracing nature as a priority in my life. I love the outdoors but as the temperature and humidity rises I am aware my air-conditioned office becomes my usual hang out!
Note from Sarah: I love how Ainslie has mentioned embracing the priorities within your life. Behind your food related issues there are needs yearning to be fulfilled, for which food is not the answer. This post I wrote here contains so many helpful heart opening tips to help you to get unstuck!
My words of advice for women about food & their body would be…
In regards to food I would recommend eating everything in moderation. I know this is such a basic concept but it is something I truly believe in. I have found that when I’ve tried to eliminate something from my diet (eg. Dairy) it just makes me want it more and I crave it. A little bit of something here and there is ok in my opinion.
And lastly do you have a quote or any favourite mantra you use to remind yourself of your beauty, worth and brilliance?
I really love this simple yet punchy quote from Audrey Hepburn “Happy Girls are the Prettiest.” It’s so true!
