The other week I wrote a post about how controlling our food is most certainly for many of us a reaction to body image issues or hating our bodies, if that resonates more with you.
BUT going even further than this the reason we generally hate our bodies so much and are willing to go to torturous lengths to get a body we think will make us happy (i.e. be ‘thin’) is because we essentially don’t like ourselves all that much.
In other words we are fighting food because underneath it all we’re at war with ourselves.
Want to hear me talk about this topic in more detail? Let’s dive straight in.
Here’s what you will learn in this video:
- If you want to really control your ‘craziness’ around food you need to address what you are really trying to control…which chances are is more than just ‘wanting to control your weight’.
- You’re likely to be controlling your life through food if your core self esteem is attached to what other people think of you and your perceptions of yourself. Which goes to say you need to believe that you are worth more than what it is you physically ‘have’ or own in life.
- Control is a strategy we use to combat fear…a form of ‘shame resilience’ that is unsustainable in the long run (because we can never control what other people think of us…period).
