When I tell clients that to stop feeling out of control around food, their best best is to make peace with how they look today, I get A TON of objections.
I can’t possibly like myself at this size.
No one else will every like me at this size.
Liking myself at this size is going to keep me/ make me fat/ unhealthy etc.
Impossible. Ridiculous. What the f%^! are you saying?
Liking your body irrespective of your weight is a HUGE global issue, which sadly isn’t going away anytime soon. Meaning body hate is influenced by the media, bombarding us with what it means to be ‘attractive’, ‘beautiful’, ‘sexy’ and ‘glamorous’. The reality is, is that a large majority of us don’t fit this (oppressive) criteria…to the point where it becomes a ‘full time job’ – and for some- a life mission to achieve a ‘thin’ body type.
Here’s the thing: I assume you’re reading this because you’re likely to be a self-confessed ‘pro’ at dieting with a long diet resume. You’ve likely tried each and every diet under the sun and spent far too many hours of your life googling the latest ‘health & wellness’ trends. You might also be ‘thin’ by anyone standards…yet you’re still feeling out of control around food.
You’ve got to stop and question all of this: You’re dieting- meaning you watch what you eat, you exercise, you care about your appearance- yet you’re still feeling insane around food.
You must be bloody confused to say the least. What the hell is going on? What more can you do? Why isn’t this working? When will this all work?
There’s a perfectly good rationale to what’s going on for you: The reason you’re not that ‘size 8 body shape’ you so desperately want to achieve is because diets do not work. If they did you’d be reading something else other than this post, you’d likely be thin or at your ‘ideal’ body weight and the there wouldn’t be a global issue where countless women are all struggling to ‘accept’ their bodies….
