I wrote recently about feeling a little stuck of late. Restless. Tired. Stuck.
But today I want to share a free piece of coaching advice that literally saves me- every single time- without a doubt. Especially when I’ve got that ‘in-my-head’- stuck-ness vs that ‘in-my-heart feeling’ of yearning to play harder. Seek further. Push (smash down) the boundaries.
This is literally magic. You don’t need to buy another Ebook. Do another online course. Or hit up Amazon for another book (you can of course- but it is all a lot easier than that!).
Focus on how you want to feel and watch your life change (for the better).
Feelings, my lovely tribe is what makes all the difference. In each and every moment we have the power to choose how it is we want to feel (even when we have to do something we don’t want to do, we can look at it through a lense of ‘something better’).
Here’s an example: Every Tuesday I have a flat out- bum ain’t on a seat all day- kind of day. It’s exhausting. Some days I step into the day with that heavy head- let this be over- feeling. And no surprise here: the day is long- tiring- and boring. I’m not as productive. I’m de-motivated. Certainly not that best version of me (at all).
Flip that scenario to walking into that day with a feeling of ‘patience’ or being of ‘service’. And boom: I’m easing into the day with new found compassion. Kindness. Love. Generosity. I feel energetic. Respected. Competent.
Sounds, looks and feels different right. Believe me: it does.
Glow today with these simple steps:
:: Give yourself 1 minute before you start your day to pick a feeling word (or a guiding word) that resonates with you.
In the shower. During meditation. While you put pen to paper and journal. While brewing that mug of tea. When you’re moving that body of yours (my moments of brilliance come then!)
:: Declare that word to the universe.
Write it down in your diary so you can see it (often) throughout the day. Post- it- note it and put it in your office. Set little alarms during the day with that word as the alarm title (my fav- it really makes me laugh when the alarms pop up). Tell a friend (bonus points if you do a check in during the day “So hows your day of gratitude going beautiful…”)
:: Take a moment to think of 3 ways you can live out this feeling/ guiding word.
Taking a deep breathe before reacting to your boss. Starting your day with a spot of yoga to recharge and connect. Leaving work on time. Thanking someone for doing something for you. Complimenting someone. Going out of your way to help someone. Giving up your seat on the bus/ train for someone in need of a little bum on seat time.
:: Throughout the day spend a few seconds repeating the word- over and over.
I find this so helpful when I need to re-group, recall or remember what it was I want to feel. Let’s say my word is patience and a child has just spilt paint all over my beige pants (true story: and lesson learned- the hard way- re beige pants, kids and paint)- you will find me saying ‘patience, patience, patience’ until it engulfs me. And it does- it will.
