To anyone who struggles with body confidence, body image issues or even those days when your jeans just don’t fit like they did the other day (I just experienced this- hence this timely post!), these words need your eyes (read: this post is for you).
The other day I put on a pair of my jeans to feel that all to familiar ‘dig into the waist’ feeling (uncomfortable!). Instantly my mean girl started thrashing away in my head, telling me though 4 words I hate hearing “You’ve put on weight”.
Insert visions of my once ‘well rehearsed behaviour’ I used to revert to when I heard these words: a dash straight for the mirror, pulling my clothes away to reveal my stomach (it’s my target area- the bullseye of my body fear). I usually pull at my flesh trying to grasp and quantify the ‘weight gain’ physically. I scrutinise myself from multiple angles, all while muttering self deprecating comments to myself.
While this story sounds sound- and is terribly, heart wrenchingly sad- it’s common. But I’m here- on a heart felt mission- to change that. …
